Jet Skis in the UAE: Renting and Buying
Everything about jet skis in the UAE: renting by the hour, buying new or used, where to ride in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah, and what to check first.
Jet skis are the fastest way onto the water in the UAE. Rentals are available along the coast in every major emirate, and for regular riders, owning one is a fraction of the cost of a boat.
This guide covers both sides: renting for an hour of fun, and buying your own machine, including what to check on a used jet ski before you pay.
Renting a jet ski
Rentals are typically priced by the half hour or hour, with the operator providing life jackets and a briefing. Most operators in Dubai ride from designated zones with views of the skyline, and Abu Dhabi and Sharjah have their own popular launch points.
- Book with an established operator with clear safety rules and well maintained machines.
- Check what the price includes: fuel, life jacket, and time actually on the water rather than time at the dock.
- Ask about the riding zone. Some areas are open runs, others are limited circuits.
- Go early morning for calm water and cooler temperatures, especially in summer.
Buying your own
If you ride more than a few times a season, ownership starts to make sense. The UAE used market is active, and machines here often have low hours because the season is long but sessions are short.
The same rule as boats applies: the machine with complete service history is worth more than the shinier one without it.
Checking a used jet ski
- Hours and history: ask for service records and check the hour meter against wear on the seat, grips, and hull.
- Compression test: the single most revealing engine check on a used ski. Ask for one or arrange it.
- Hull and ride plate: look for repairs and impact damage underneath.
- Water test: insist on one. Starting, idling, acceleration, and steering should all be crisp.
- Paperwork: registration must match the seller, with no outstanding finance.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a license to ride a jet ski in the UAE?
Requirements exist for operating personal watercraft and they differ by emirate. Rental operators handle the basics for supervised sessions, but if you plan to own and ride independently, check the current requirements with the maritime authority in your emirate.
What season is best for jet skiing?
October to May offers the most comfortable conditions. In summer, early morning sessions are the local secret: calm water, cooler air, and empty riding zones.
New or used for a first jet ski?
A well documented used machine from a careful owner is the classic first buy. New makes sense if you want a warranty and plan to keep it for years.
